JIU-JITSU (GI)

__________________________________________________________________________

Training with the gi is similar to no-gi grappling, but the presence of the gi influences speed, opportunities, and energy of a grappling match. Gi grappling draws most heavily from the concepts of Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu and is also influenced by Judo, Sambo, and Wrestling.  Just as in no-gi grappling, you will learn how to control an opponent through takedowns, positioning, and finishing holds. This class provides specific instruction in how to use the gi to control and submit your opponent, and many of the concepts are applicable to no-gi grappling. The program provides a strong foundation in tried-and-true classic techniques and reflects the fact that gi grappling is a dynamic, ever-evolving art.

GRAPPLING (NO GI)

___________________________________________________________________________

AKA "Submission Wrestling" or "No-gi Jiu-Jitsu." Grappling is a hybrid wrestling style that incorporates all of the skills found in Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu, Judo, Sambo, and Collegiate Wrestling. This class focuses on outmaneuvering an opponent through technical skills rather than strength. You will learn how to control an opponent through various takedowns, reversals, transitions, holds, joint locks, and submissions. Grappling is useful in both the standing/neutral position and on the ground. While training with a gi offers the competitor more options for submissions and control of the opponent, training without a gi is a faster and more dynamic style of fighting. If you are interested in a good and effective fitness program or you just want to be a more complete fighter, the grappling program offers a good combination. This class is an essential part of Mixed Martial Arts (MMA).
